Dozza is a real outdoor museum, where you can admire more than one hundred frescoes by contemporary prestigious artists.

The colourful open-air frescoes, narrow streets, gentle slopes, and majestic medieval castle will carry you out of time. Not yet contaminated by massive tourism, here you can find the atmosphere of a real still n uncorrupted Italian village.

If you have enough energy, climb the castle towers, and enjoy a breathtaking view over this uncontaminated landscape! Enter the castle cellars and discover the region’s most outstanding permanent exhibition of wines: over 1000 labels! Have a typical lunch at a local trattoria to taste the specialties of the region.
Visit a famous winery and enjoy a wine tasting with pairing foods from the territory.

Program

You will reach Dozza by a private comfortable car or minivan with English-speaking driver. The first stop will be a renowned winery where an expert sommelier will guide you through the estate, its vineyards and cellars. The area in fact is famous for the Sangiovese DOC (red wine) and Albana DOCG (white wine). Thanks to the wine production and its rich gastronomy, Dozza is also part of the Route of the Wines & Flavours of the Imola Hills.  An amazing tasting of 4 wines and pairing foods will follow the visit of the estate.

The second stop will be the historical center of Dozza which is located on the crest of a gentle hill dominating the Sellustra River valley, it has a singular spindle shape, and it has maintained the original medieval structure. After a stroll through the typical medieval alleys, small squares and painted walls, you will reach the imposing fortress, the Rocca Sforzesca, situated at the top of the village, harmonizes perfectly with the rest of the buildings.

 

The Fortress was reconstructed during the 15th century by Caterina Sforza on the remains of ancient Bolognese fortresses, then transformed into the elegant Palazzo Malvezzi Campeggi. You can visit the great hall, the parlours and the bedrooms and the kitchen, the dungeons and the instruments of torture hall. If you have enough energy, climb the castle’s towers, and enjoy a breathtaking view over this uncontaminated landscape! You can also enter the castle cellars and discover the region’s most outstanding permanent exhibition of wines: over 1000 labels!

The day will conclude with a typical lunch at a local trattoria to taste the specialties of the region such as hand-made tagliatelle (noodles) and tortelli (filled pasta) and the typical piadina (flat bread) served with soft cheese, like squacquerone, and salamis.
