You will reach Dozza by private, comfortable car or minivan with an English-speaking driver. The first stop will be a renowned winery, where an expert sommelier will guide you through the estate, its vineyards, and cellars. The area is famous for its Sangiovese DOC (red wine) and Albana DOCG (white wine). Due to its wine production and rich gastronomy, Dozza is also part of the Route of the Wines & Flavours of the Imola Hills. After touring the estate, enjoy an amazing tasting of 4 wines paired with local foods.
The second stop will be the historical center of Dozza, located atop a gentle hill overlooking the Sellustra River valley. With its singular spindle shape, the town has preserved its original medieval structure. After a stroll through the charming medieval alleys, small squares, and painted walls, you’ll reach the imposing Rocca Sforzesca, a fortress that perfectly complements the village’s other historic buildings.
The Fortress was reconstructed in the 15th century by Caterina Sforza on the remains of ancient Bolognese fortifications and later transformed into the elegant Palazzo Malvezzi Campeggi. You can explore the great hall, parlours, bedrooms, kitchen, dungeons, and the instruments of torture room. If you have enough energy, climb the castle towers for a breathtaking view of the pristine landscape! You can also enter the castle cellars and discover the region’s most remarkable permanent wine exhibition, featuring over 1,000 labels!
The day will conclude with a typical lunch at a local trattoria, where you can savor regional specialties such as handmade tagliatelle (noodles), tortelli (filled pasta), and the typical piadina (flatbread) served with soft cheese like squacquerone and local salamis.
